Ted Koppel on a Corn Tortilla
August 9, 2006

I was awakened at approximately 11:45 AM by the annoying whine of the neighbor's aging leaf blower. My arms and legs ached from the previous afternoon, one filled with an impromptu session of tricycle demolition derby in the front yard. I would provide a complete description of the sequence of events--the trip to the second-hand sporting goods store, the purchase of shoulder pads and helmets, a yard sale, the killer deal (five metal tricycles for five bucks), but that's another story for later. If there's time. But this isn't about old football uniforms and a group of five grown men crashing into one another while riding tricycles in the front yard. It's about breakfast and a vision.

Ted Koppel on a Corn Tortilla*

Some get Mary.
Some get The Son.
I was making breakfast
when I got one.

I stood there at the stove
to make a simple quesadilla
when I got Ted Koppel
on a corn tortilla.
